Fogarty Nearly Perfect in Game 1
Toronto, ON - May 5, 2008
The Ontario Blue Jays 18 & u team swept a doubleheader from Team Ontario on Sunday at Bishop's Cross Park in Thornhill. In the first game the big blow was delivered by RF Kyle Morton (2008/Mississauga) who came up with the bases loaded in a scoreless game and belted a grand slam to put the Jays ahead for good as they coasted to a 7 - 1 victory behind the strong pitching performance of LHP Nick Fogarty (2008/Thornhill) who took a perfect game into the 6th inning before allowing a one-out walk and then a two-out double to also lose the no-hitter and shutout. RHP Josh Soffer (2008/Ottawa) pitched the 7th inning to close out the game for the Jays.
Game 2 saw a similarly impressive performance on the mound for the Jays as they won by a score of 2 - 1 behind a solid start by LHP Evan Grills (2010/Whitby). Grills got credit for the win and went 5 innings and recorded 6 strikeouts while allowing the lone run. RHP Nick DaSilva (2008/Toronto) came on to pitch the 6th and 7th innings recording his second save of the season.

Brenn and Hastings Swing Hot Bats All Weekend
Ottawa, ON - May 5, 2008
The Ontario Blue Jays 16 & u team got off to a hot start in the PBLO sweeping all 4 games in Ottawa this weekend. The Jays received strong pitching all weekend long with LHP Kyle Willard (2010/Brampton) recording 2 victories out of the bullpen, tossing 6 innings on the weekend allowing only 1 earned run, while striking out 8. The weekend got off to a great start behind RHP Dany Jimenez (2010/Toronto) who went 4 innings in the opener and was relieved by RHP Rob Good (2010/Mississauga) who threw the final 3 innings recording the victory in the Jays 7 - 2 win. Offensively the Jays were led by CF Tyler Hibbert (2010/Unionville), 2B Scott Wilcox (2010/Burlington), C Cam Mattice (2010/Mississauga) and OF Andrew Hastings (2010/Mississauga) who all had multi-hit games with Wilcox going 3 - 4 with 2 stolen bases and Hastings notching 3 RBI's while Mattice added 2.
In Game 2 the Jays picked up right where they left off winning by a 9 - 0 score behind an extremely strong starting effort by RHP Matt Wick (2010/Mississauga) who went 6 innings striking out 7 while walking only 1 and recording just 4 hits. RHP Jordan Boston (2010/Mississauga) came in to throw the 7th and close out the shutout for the Jays. Boston also contributed at the plate going 1 - 3 with 2 runs scored and a walk. 3B Luke Brenn (2010/Mississauga) started a hot streak going 2 - 3 with an RBI, a double and a walk. This would be the first of 3 consecutive games that Brenn recorded multiple hits. SS Jose Torralba (2010/Mississauga) and C Tim Schell (2010/Mississauga) also contributed hits along with a run and RBI each.

BLUE JAYS START PBLO SEASON OFF WITH A BANG
18's Sweep Team Toronto & 17's Take 3 out of 4 from the Oakville Royals
Copeland Hits Walk-Off Bomb To Win Game in Extras
Toronto, ON - April 29, 2008
The Ontario Blue Jays got off to an excellent start to their 2008 PBLO schedule with their 17's and 18's taking a combined 7 of 8 games in the Premier Baseball League of Ontario's (PBLO) opening weekend.
The 18's christened the organization's new home, Varsity Blue Field at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus on Saturday sweeping a doubleheader from the Toronto Mets by scores of 5 - 0 and 10 - 5. LHP Nick Fogarty (2008/Thornhill) threw a complete game shutout in game limiting Toronto to 3 hits and only throwing 68 pitches along the way. Fogarty was dominating striking out 6 while only allowing 1 walk. Offensively the Jays scored a pair in the first as 1B Peter Bako (2008/Mississauga) walked to lead off the season and 2B James Kottaras (2008/Markham) followed with a HBP. LF Marcus Knecht (2008/Toronto) then walked to load the bases and C Marco DiRoma (2008/Bolton) and SS Trentt Copeland (2008/Guelph) then drove in Bako and Kottaras respectively with a ground out and sacrifice fly. RF Kyle Morton (2008/Mississauga) broke the game open in the bottom of the 6th a 2-run triple and then scored on an RBI single by 3B Daniel Marra (2007/Toronto). Copeland had a strong game offensively adding a single and a walk to his sacrifice fly to finish 1 - 1 with an RBI and run scored.
In the nightcap of the twinbill the Jays came from behind to win 10 - 5 over the Mets. The Jays received a solid starting effort from LHP Evan Grills (2010/Whitby) who went 5 innings and allowed 0 earned runs but due to shaky defense left with score at 4 - 4. RHP Nick DaSilva (2008/Toronto) came out of the bullpen to throw 2 solid innings and record the victory. The Jays tallied an 8-run 6th inning to take the lead by another key 2-run hit by RF Kyle Morton and capped by a sac fly by CF Ben Chan (2008/Mississauga) who had started the inning with a walk and a stolen base.
On Sunday the 18's fell behind in game 1, 3 - 0 but battled back to tie the game and take it to extra innings where SS Trentt Copeland followed a lead off walk to C Marco DiRoma with a 2-run walk-off home run to win the ballgame for the Jays. 1B Mike Nitsos (2008/Toronto) and 2B Argenis Paz (2008/Toronto) also had key hits in the victory while LF Marcus Knecht was 2 - 3 with a walk and an RBI as well as 2 stolen bases. RHP Dennis Boodhoo (2008/Toronto) got the victory out of the bullpen following up strong efforts by starter RHP Chris Nagorski (2008/Mississauga) and RHP Josh Soffer (2008/Ottawa) who combined to limit Toronto to just 3 hits threw the first 7 innings.
In game 2 on Sunday the Jays again battled back from a deficit having trailed 2 - 0, 6 - 1 and 8 - 6 before taking the lead with a 4-run bottom of the 6th. 2B James Kottaras had a key 2-run double en route while also recording a single earlier in the game. LF Marcus Knecht, SS Argenis Paz, 1B Trentt Copeland, C Peter Bako, RF Kyle Morton and CF Ben Chan all reached base multiple time as the Jays game from behind for the third time in the weekend to win. RHP Donny Marchione (2008/Richmond Hill) threw 2 strong innings out of the bullpen to record the win.
While the Jays 18's were sweeping the Mets at Varsity Blues Field on Saturday the 17's were dealing the Oakville Royals 18 & under team a similar fate at Glen Abbey Park in Oakville. The 17's swept the Royals on Saturday by scores of 3 - 2 and 6 - 2 behind solid starting efforts by RHP's Chris Branciere (2009/Mississauga) and Dean McCrorie (2010/Myrtle Station). RHP Bronson Lake (2009/Brampton) recorded saves in both end's of the doubleheader. Offensively the Jays were lead by SS Josh Grassick (2009/Burlington) and 2B Jeff Kosta (2009/Mississauga) who both contributed RBI doubles on the day while LF Chris Mullen (2009/Belleville) had a bases clearing triple in game 2 to cement the Jays victory.
On Sunday the Jays 17's blew a 4 - 1 lead in the top of the 7th to fall behind 9 - 4 only to see them rally to make it 9 - 7 with runners on first and second and 3B John Solazzo (2009/Mississauga) coming to the plate as the game winning run. Solazzo drove a ball to right-centre field only to see it die on the warning track ending the Jays hopes of a last-inning comeback. Solazzo then went out and took the mound in game 2 throwing a complete game 3-hitter as the Jays won 5 - 1. Kosta and Grassick again made key contributions offensively.
Next up for the Ontario Blue Jays, the 18's take on Team Ontario in a doubleheader on May 2 at 6:00 pm at Bishop's Cross Park in Thornhill while the 17's take on Team Toronto this weekend while the 16's open their PBLO season with a 4 game series in the Nation's Capital against the Ottawa-Nepean Canadians.
